The Parish

Hamble has approximately 4000 inhabitants and it is situated on a peninsula between two busy stretches of water - the Hamble River and Southampton Water. It is served by one access road, Hamble Lane, the B3397, and lies three miles south of the A27 and M27 (Junction 8) between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth. Hamble also has a station known as Hamble Halt and a ferry linking it to Warsash.

The village has played a significant role in the country's aviation and maritime history, and there can be few villages in Britain that can boast over the centuries to have had a priory, a Norman church and a castle. Today, Hamble is one of the country's leading yachting centres and it is renowned throughout the world. There are also other industries including an oil terminal and aircraft factory as well as a wide range of other businesses. Hamble is visited by thousands of people throughout the year, the majority are interested in boating but casual visitors also come to discover the delightful old village centre or the quay, foreshore or waterfront.

If you wish to find out more, the Hamble Official Guide can be obtained from the Parish Office at the cost of £2.50. For those who are interested there is a photographic archive of over 500 pictures of the village which can be viewed at the Parish Office during opening times.
